Following the death of Superman, the world falls into chaos, and powerful forces begin to take advantage of his absence. Bruce Wayne (Batman) and Diana Prince (Wonder Woman) work to assemble a team of metahumans to defend Earth from an impending extraterrestrial invasion. Their fears become reality when Steppenwolf, a ruthless general under Darkseid, arrives on Earth in search of the three Mother Boxesโancient, powerful artifacts that, when united, will terraform the planet into a copy of Darkseidโs homeworld, Apokolips. As Steppenwolf collects the first two boxes from the Amazons and Atlanteans, Bruce and Diana recruit Barry Allen (The Flash), Victor Stone (Cyborg), and Arthur Curry (Aquaman). However, the team realizes they are outmatched and must find a way to bring Superman back to life.
Using the Mother Box recovered from Victorโs father, the League devises a risky plan to resurrect Superman using the Kryptonian shipโs technology. The process is successful, but Superman initially lacks his memories and is overwhelmed with confusion. In a stunning moment, The Flash taps into the Speed Force, reversing time and giving Victor the opportunity to separate the boxes. With the combined strength of Superman and the team, Steppenwolf is defeated, and Wonder Woman beheads him, sending his body through a portal to Apokolips. Darkseid, watching from the other side, vows to return and conquer Earth personally.
In the aftermath, Bruce and Diana discuss the future of the League, preparing for the next battle. Lex Luthor escapes from Arkham Asylum and meets with Slade Wilson (Deathstroke), revealing Batmanโs secret identity. Meanwhile, Bruce has a nightmarish vision of a post-apocalyptic future where Darkseid has conquered Earth and Superman has fallen under his control. In this timeline, Batman, Cyborg, Mera, The Flash, Deathstroke, and The Joker form a resistance against Supermanโs tyranny. Bruce awakens, shaken by the vision, only to be visited by Martian Manhunter, who warns him that Earth will still face great threats.
