Set during the Cold War in the late 1970s, Firebird follows the story of Sergey, a young private serving his mandatory military service on an air force base in Soviet-occupied Estonia. Despite his aspirations, he remains trapped in the strict routine of army life, forming close friendships with fellow soldiers, including his best friend Luisa, a bright and ambitious woman who works as the base commander’s secretary.
