Avengers: Endgame (2019) picks up after the devastating events of Infinity War, where Thanos wiped out half of all life in the universe with the snap of his fingers. The surviving Avengers—Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, Hulk, and Hawkeye—are left broken and desperate. The most tragic moment occurs when Black Widow and Hawkeye reach Vormir, where they learn that obtaining the Soul Stone requires sacrificing a loved one. After a heartbreaking struggle, Natasha sacrifices herself, ensuring the team acquires the Stone.

Upon returning to the present, the Avengers place the Stones into a new Infinity Gauntlet, which Bruce uses to snap and restore everyone who was lost. However, their success is short-lived. The 2014 version of Thanos, having learned of their plan through Nebula’s memory, travels to the future and attacks Avengers HQ. A massive battle ensues, with Thanos’ army facing the fully assembled Avengers, including the resurrected heroes. Just when it seems all hope is lost, Doctor Strange and the sorcerers open portals, bringing back heroes from across the universe. Captain America, wielding Thor’s hammer, fights Thanos in a stunning showdown. When Thanos gains the upper hand, Tony realizes that only one option remains. He manages to steal the Infinity Stones and, with his final act, snaps his fingers, turning Thanos and his army to dust.

Tony Stark’s sacrifice saves the universe but comes at the cost of his life. As the Avengers mourn their fallen friend, they honor his legacy in an emotional funeral attended by their allies. Meanwhile, Steve Rogers fulfills his promise to return the Stones to their original timelines. Instead of returning, he chooses to stay in the past with Peggy Carter, living out the life he always wanted. In the present, an elderly Steve appears, passing his shield—and the mantle of Captain America—to Sam Wilson. The film ends on a poignant note, showing Steve and Peggy finally getting their dance, a moment decades in the making.
